CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An investigation is underway about a fatal accident in north Charlotte. Charlotte–Mecklenburg Police officers responded to an accidents after injuries were reported on Beatties Ford Road near Hornets Nest Elementary School.
Officers located a red Dodge Caravan with heavy damage to its front-end after it collided with a utility pole. There were five people in the vehicle who were transported to a local hospital by MEDIC.
One of the passengers, Darnell Campbell Jr., 38 was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Jayden Grundy, 23, was identified as the driver.
No impairment was found when Grundy was tested. Grundy was charged with failure to maintain and misdemeanor death by vehicle. He was transported to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office custody.
This investigation remains ongoing.
