Local organizers march, text message, canvass and more to get people to the polls

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Organizers are working to get people out to the polls. Members of Bishop William Barber II’s Love Forward Together Voter Mobilization Initiative gathered in northwest Charlotte on Thursday for a “March to the Polls” on the first day of in-person early voting in North Carolina.

The group plans text messaging efforts, along with phone banks and door-to-door canvassing to get the word out. Dr. Hannah R. Broome says, “In this state, the rules keep changing and confusion is its own kind of suppression. When people aren’t sure of the rules, some of them stay home. We are here to interrupt the confusion.”

Similar marches are being held across the state in other cities like Raleigh and Winston-Salem.
