CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead following a single-car accident in northeast Charlotte early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred in the 3700 block of The Plaza, near Sweetbriar Street, at about 4:29 a.m. on Sunday, August 26th.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the vehicle involved in the crash was traveling east on The Plaza when it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic as it exited the curve. The vehicle ran off the road and hit a light pole before flipping over and catching fire.
The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Rashad Waller, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.Β Two passengers in the car with Waller were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.Β It is unknown whether alcohol is a factor.
Witness and passenger statements indicate that a separate vehicle likely struck Mr. Waller after he was thrown from the car.Β Β Anyone with any information about the vehicle that nay have struck Mr. Waller is asked to contact the Major Crash Investigations UnitΒ at 704-432-2169.
