CMPD has arrested the driver injured in a drive-by shooting on I-85 north Monday afternoon on multiple drug and weapons charges.

Dawan Evans, 32, was arrested Tuesday after being cleared from the hospital. Police have charged him with Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Possession with Intent to Sell/Distribute Marijuana.

The suspect accused of shooting into Evans’ vehicle is still on the loose.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that happened Monday afternoon on a busy Charlotte interstate.

Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were called to I-85 north near I-77 in reference to a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers located a man who had been shot inside his vehicle.

The man was taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.  Police say he has serious injuries but is expected to survive.  Investigators believe a vehicle pulled up along-side the victim’s vehicle and started shooting.

No one is in custody at this time.  The ramp from I-77 north to I-85 north has been reopened after being closed for several hours following the incident.
