Sheriff McFadden on recent deadly violence in Charlotte: everyone “from Ballantyne to Beatties Ford” must take action

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden is calling for immediate community action following a violent weekend in Charlotte. In a newly released statement, Sheriff McFadden revealed that five people, including two teenagers, were killed across four separate weekend shootings.

Drawing on his background as a homicide detective, McFadden says the community cannot accept this as “normal” or rely on social media keyboard commentary.

He is urging parents, teachers, preachers, professional athletes and neighbors “from Ballantyne to Beatties Ford” to speak up and report warning signs before more lives are lost. McFadden emphasizes that law enforcement cannot do it alone. He ended his letter writing, “We must turn our grief and anger into action before another family has to hear the news I have delivered too many times.”
