Davidson Neighbors on Alert After Attempted Child Abduction
DAVIDSON, N.C. –Β A 12-year-old Davidson boy says a man tried to lure him into a car. It happened as the boy was walking a dog on Lake Park Drive around 7:15 Monday morning.
He says a man drove up and asked him to get in the car and go for a ride. When the boy said no, police say the suspect offered to buy him, “something from Target.”
“Yeah, that sounds like a pretty classic of someone trying to abduct a kid to me,” says neighbor Jeff Cupstid.
Word is spreading among neighbors who say it’s disturbing.
“There’s a lot of young kids here so itβs scary to think somebody would kinda be lurking around looking for kids,” Cupstid says.
Police say the boy did the right thing and ran home, where his parents called 911.
“Yeah, that’s good. Somebody, somebody taught that kid right,” Cupstid says.
Davidson resident Missy Maylott read about the attempted abduction on NextDoor. She plans to talk with her 10-year-old daughter.
“We have a rule here too, when the kids are riding up and down the road, if this were to happen, just go to the closest house,” Maylott says.
Police do not have a good description of the suspect, but the boy says he was driving a blue or black car, possibly a Volkswagon.
Maylott says she hopes police catch the suspect, until then she and her daughter will take extra precautions.
“Not expecting it to happen, but ready if it does happen,” she says.
