South Iredell Student Arrested For Bringing Gun On Campus

TROUTMAN, N.C. — A South Iredell High School student has been charged with possession of a firearm on a school campus.

School administrators said they noticed the 17-year-old student was acting abnormally after checking in late and suspected he might be under the influence.

After questioning him about his behavior, administrators advised the student that they were going to search his car.  The student then told officials that he had a weapon in the car.

The Troutman Police Department and school administrators searched the car and found a loaded gun.

The student was taken into custody immediately.  Authorities say no students or staff were ever threatened and additional resource officers were on campus for the remainder of the day.

Principal Tim Ivey said, “I’m proud of the fact that our faculty is vigilant about safety on school grounds so that our students are safe.” Mr. Ivey encourages parents to talk with their students about the serious consequences of bringing inappropriate items to school.
