Trees Topple in Florence’s High Winds
CHARLOTTE, NC — 2,600 Duke Energy customers were without power Friday night in Mecklenburg County, mostly because of downed trees from Tropical Storm Florence’s winds.
At least two trees toppled over in Myers Park: one on Hopedale Avenue off of South Kings Drive landed on a home. No one was hurt. The other fell on Sharon Road and crushed a car. A neighbor says he was in his kitchen when he heard a loud thud.
“It was almost like an earthquake,” said Myers Park resident Anshuman Mandal. “The ground shook so when I came out, I see this massive tree laying down. Luckily nobody was hurt.”
Time is running out, but if you can, trim back or try to get troublesome trees removed before the winds really pick up.
