Talking Through Tense Moments

This morning, some people on Twitter argue President Trump was tone deaf and put his foot in his mouth when he talked to Hurricane Florence victims in North Carolina. At one point, the President told storm victims who lost or nearly lost everything to “have a good day” when they arrived for food and supplies.

One man, who’s boat was damaged, says the president told him: “At least you get a new boat out of the deal!” It’s unclear whether the President was joking or misspoke.

Eventually we all have to talk to someone who’s in the middle of tragedy, grief or a big life altering event. How do you sound genuine, when really you are lost for words?
