COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The football teams from Clemson and South Carolina are being honored by the NCAA for outstanding performances in the classroom. Both programs were named among 13 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in the top 10 percent in the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate, a measure of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Furman pitching coach Mike Ranson has resigned. Head coach Ron Smith announced the move Wednesday. Ranson had spent the past two seasons with the Paladins. No reason was given for Ranson’s departure.

Despite the drop off, the one-time Heisman Trophy contender believes he’ll surprise experts again once the NFL draft starts Thursday night.
NEW YORK (AP) — Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio State and UCLA will compete in a doubleheader in each of the next three seasons. The CBS Sports Classic will debut on Dec. 20 at the United Center in Chicago with North Carolina playing Ohio State and UCLA facing Kentucky. The network made the announcement Wednesday.
