Student Arrested At South Pointe HS After Police Find Handguns, Marijuana In Vehicle

ROCK HILL, SC — Police have arrested an 18-year-old student at South Pointe High School after reportedly finding two handguns and a large amount of marijuana in his vehicle.

Police say they found the items in Dakota Patterson’s car Friday morning, which was parked in the student parking lot. Officers reportedly found one loaded gun, one unloaded gun and roughly half a pound of marijuana inside.

Extra officers were on campus Friday, according to Rock Hill Police, due to a rumor of possible violence that was supposed to take place. The items were found while officers were searching and patrolling the premises.

Patterson is charged with Possession of a Stolen Pistol, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana in Proximity to a School, and Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds.

Police say another student, 17-year-old Willow McDonough, was also arrested and charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.
