Former Carolina Panther Rae Carruth Scheduled To Be Released from Prison Monday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Monday, former Carolina Panther Rae Carruth will walk out of prison a free man. He’s spent 19 years behind bars for conspiring to kill his girlfriend, Cherica Adams, who was eight months pregnant with his child.

Cherica’s mother, Saundra, has cared for that child, Chancellor, since he was a baby. He’s now 18 years old. WCCB Charlotte was there as they shared their story with inmates at the Mecklenburg County Jail last year.

β€œI just want them to know that they can start making better choices,” Adams says.

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the two visited inmates preparing for release, urging them to think before they act.

β€œOnce you plant the seed, whether they act on it right now or not, it’s planted in their hearts,” Adams says.
