TALLAHASSEE, FL — Tallahassee Police say two people are dead, including the gunman, and four are wounded after a shooting at a yoga studio Friday evening.
The shooting happened shortly after 5:30pm at the Betton Place shopping center located at Thomasville Road and Bradford Road. Police say the gunman wounded five people in the shooting before turning the gun on himself.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims were all transported to a nearby hospital. One victim was pronounced dead from injuries, officials say, and four remain in critical condition.
Police say this appears to be the act of a lone individual and there is no further threat to the community. At this time, the deceased suspect has not been identified.
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum responded to the shooting in a tweet saying he was “deeply appreciative of law enforcement’s quick response” and that “no act of gun violence is acceptable.”
Gillum, who is also the Democrat nominee in the state’s gubernatorial race, also said he is cutting his campaign trip short tonight to return to Tallahassee.
Florida Governor Rick Scott also posted a tweet saying he has been briefed on the shooting and is offering state assistance.
