Plastic straw bans are going into effect around the country.
It is a move to cut the staggering amount plastic that ends up in landfills or in the ocean.
California became the first state to ban plastic straws from restaurant tables in September.
Seattle, Washington passed a similar ban back in July.
Companies like Starbucks, McDonald’s and Shake Shake have plans to phase out plastic straws and utensils.
Some Charlotte restaurants and venues are following suit.
Blumenthal Performing Arts announced a plan to stop using plastic straws back in August.
Instead, they will offer paper straws at all six venues.
By some estimates, people in the United States use around 500-million straws every single day.
8-million tons of plastic ends up in the ocean every year and more than 8-billion straws have wash up on beaches across the world, according to a recent study.
