CHARLOTTE, NC — Republican Mark Harris has officially won the 9th District race following Democrat challenger Dan McCready’s concession speech Wednesday afternoon.
Harris won the election by less than 2,000 votes during the November 6th midterms. The race was expected to be close throughout the campaign.
The following statement was released by Harris’ campaign after he spoke with McCready:
“Late this afternoon I received a call from Dan McCready congratulating us on our victory in the Ninth District. It was a very friendly discussion during which we both agreed to find ways to work together in the weeks and months ahead.
As someone who has been on the other side of close races, I appreciate Dan’s graciousness today. He ran a spirited campaign and I have no doubt as to his love of country. I look forward to sitting down with him to discuss ways we can work together for the betterment of the Ninth District.”
On October 26th, President Trump visited Charlotte to host a rally for Harris and 13th District incumbent Ted Budd.
Harris is the former Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Charlotte. He upset the incumbent 9th District Rep. Robert Pittenger for the GOP nomination in the primaries earlier this year.
