KANNAPOLIS, NC — Officials say a person died Wednesday morning after being hit by a train.
The accident happened shortly after 11:30am near the intersection of Ridge Avenue and D. Street. Officials say the victim and a friend were walking on the railroad tracks after visiting a nearby store.
According to investigators, the friend said the two were intoxicated at the time and the victim was unable to get off the tracks once they noticed the train coming towards them.
The friend was not injured.
