UNION COUNTY, NC – Some parents in Union County are upset with how school board members are handling the redistricting battle and calling posts made on social media “demeaning” and “immature”.

In response to parents’ questions on Facebook, board member Kevin Stewart called them armchair experts, muckrakers, and wrote that their questions are foolish, baseless, and ignorant.

“Almost making a joke of the situation and not taking it seriously, which is very alarming considering that its the future of our kids,” said Andrew Young, a Wesley Chapel resident.

Young says Stewart should publicly apologize so the county can move on with the redistricting issue–civilly.

“The last thing I want is the kids who are going to be affected see this type of behavior from adults, parents, myself, or anyone else,” said Young.

Parents like Kristy Gaines of Matthews say Stewart is also bashing the idea of using $3 million to buy mobile classrooms before hearing what parents want, and before a vote.

“The work session tomorrow night is almost like a joke, because he’s already made up his mind. The decision has been made, and he’s not changing it,” said Gaines.

WCCB emailed Stewart Monday to request an interview. He responded saying, “While muckrakers choose to debate me, I simply choose to ignore them and do what has to be done. I certainly have no intention of honoring such vitriol and subterfuge with public comment.”

Besides an apology, some parents say there’s one other solution.

“Not posting anything would be a smart thing,” said Terez Biancardi, a Matthews resident.
