CHARLOTTE, NC– Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation off Briar Creek Road after officers say a call was reported about an assault with a deadly weapon at Smokey Joe’s Cafe late Saturday evening.
Upon arrival, officers located John Michael Songer, with an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by MEDIC.
Authorities say the investigation indicates that the suspect identified as Jamie Lord Harris, 35, fired several shots into the parking lot and at the building of the bar.
Songer, was reportedly standing outside the building in a patio area when he was struck by one of the bullets.
Smokey Joe’s Cafe reportedly reopened several hours later.
