Mayor Vi Lyles Reflects on 2018
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte mayor Vi Lyles is reflecting on 2018 to prepare for the new year. This was her first year as mayor. She says she doesn’t have problems with the delays on the I-77 toll lane project because it will better everyone in the region.
When asked about reports that the Panthers headquarters could move to South Carolina, Lyles says she hopes the city can work with the Panthers to keep them in Charlotte.
She also talked about public transportation. “Millenials aren’t buying cars like people in my generation did. And so we’re going to have to work on pedestrian walking trails, our biking trails and our scooters, but we’re going to have to really buckle down and look at our options for light rail and bus system growth.”
In her push for affordable housing, Lyles says citizens will be able to measure the city’s success by its new construction, keeping people in their existing apartments and helping people stay there when they have a crisis.
