CHARLOTTE, NC — The CIAA Tournament may be leaving Charlotte after finishing their current contract with the city, which runs through 2020.
WCCB’s Drew Bollea spoke with several Charlotte city council members on Monday, and they say the Queen City has lost the bid to continue holding the tournament after the current contract expires next year.
The bid was to see who would host the college basketball tournament from 2021 to 2023. Reports say that Baltimore has won that bidding process.
Mayor Vi Lyles was asked about the move, but reportedly declined comment saying she would wait until an official announcement is made by the CIAA.
The tournament is responsible for bringing roughly $50 million in revenue to the Queen City. The tournament has been held each year in Charlotte since 2006.
