CMPD Officers Arrests Suspect Connected To December Arson Attempt
PINEVILLE, NC — CMPD has arrested a suspect in connection to an attempted arson in the Elizabeth neighborhood back in December.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says they served the warrants at a home on Cone Avenue in Pineville around 1:40pm. The suspect was wanted in connection to an arson case that happened on December 22nd at the Chantilly Corner Studios on Shenandoah Avenue.
The suspect was reportedly taken into custody by CMPD SWAT without incident. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
A WCCB photographer was at the scene when he says the CMPD Bomb Squad detonated some sort of device in the backyard of the home. There has been no official confirmation on what that device was.
Photos and video shared by Joe Leighty on Facebook show two suspects being taken away in handcuffs during the incident.
No injuries were reported.
Around 11:39am on December 22, CMPD says they, along with Charlotte Fire Department, were called to an attempted arson at the Chantilly Corner Studios. Police say the business had minor damage, but it was later determined that those damages actually occurred around 3:13am the night before.
Investigators say various materials, including accelerants, were used in the arson attempt, but found no evidence of high explosives. The exact method and materials used is being withheld, police say, as part of the ongoing investigation.
During the search of the Cone Avenue home, CMPD says evidence was found and collected. Police have not said what that evidence is.
