CHARLOTTE, NC — Dozens of jobless protesters marched in Uptown before speaking at Monday’s City Council meeting. Organizers with the Charlotte Jobs Coalition want city leaders to allocate $10 million for a jobs program. The first goal is to get a thousand of the city’s long-term unemployed on the clock.
“It’s about time that we stood up, had people recognize the fact that there is a lot of people who are unemployed, the poverty rate going up, and it’s because of the fact that people do not have work,” said Center for Community Change organizer Evonne Tisdale.
Organizers say City Council members were receptive to their plans.
