CHARLOTTE, N.C.– One person is dead after a shooting in East Charlotte Sunday.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service around 1:30 Sunday afternoon in the 500 block of Blendwood Drive.
Medic pronounced Demario Simms, 27, deceased at the scene.
Police have charged Austin Demar Burnett, 25, with the murder of Simms and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. They say early information indicates the victim and suspect knew each other and this was not a random act of violence.
This is an ongoing, active investigation.
