20-year-old woman killed during officer-involved shooting in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman is dead after an officer-involved shooting in north Charlotte.

The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. at the Dillehay Court apartments onΒ Bellefonte Drive. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe says officers were called to the apartment complex in regards to a domestic disturbance. When officers went into the apartment, a 20-year-old woman reportedly holding a knife lunged towards officers. At least two shots were fired striking the victim. The victim later died at the hospital.

Chief Monroe says two officers that were called to the scene were transported to CMC after being visibly shaken up. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave which is regular procedure.Β 

At this time, authorities have not released the names of the victim or the officers involved.
