Rain & Snow Today, Freezing Temps to Follow
A winter weather advisory goes into effect until 7pm for Ashe, Avery Watauga, Burke, Caldwell counties. Snow accumulations of 1-3″ will be possible. Rain will follow across the rest of the area. There is still a small window of opportunity for snow to reach south of I-40 – and as far south as the Charlotte Metro area (think the tiniest of windows here) – however, no accumulation is expected. Colder air fill flood in behind this cold front with temps dropping into the 20s across the mountains by the afternoon. Overnight temps will fall into the teens and 20s area wide, with wind chills in the single digits and teens. Highs on Wednesday will reach the mid 40s under sunny skies, however the wind chill will make it feel more like the 30s. Coldest morning will be Thursday with wind chills 10-15 below zero for the mountains. Temps will become more seasonable by Friday and warm to the upper 50s by the end of the weekend.
