Beloved Winthrop Professor And Former Journalist Dies

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A beloved Winthrop professor and former journalist, Haney Howell, passed away Monday, February 11th.  He was 75-years-old.

Howell worked as a professor in the Mass Communications Department at Winthrop University for 24 years.  He retired in 2012.

He started his broadcasting career as a war correspondent for CBS during the Vietnam War.  Howell received the South Carolina Broadcasters Association’s Honorary Lifetime Membership Award in 2011.
