Concord Police Investigating Deadly Head On Collision

CONCORD, NC — Police are investigating a head on collision that left one person dead and sent three others to the hospital Tuesday evening.

The accident happened around 6pm on NC Highway 49 near Central Cabarrus High School. Police say 42-year-old Kelly Clevenger crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head on with another vehicle.

Clevenger died at the scene. Police say a 10-year-old passenger in her vehicle was taken to CMC with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle also suffered non-life threatening injuries, police say, and were transported to Carolina’s Health Care System Northeast for treatment.

Investigators say they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
