CONOVER, NC — No children were inside a Conover area daycare early Thursday morning when officials say the roof partially collapsed due to water damage.
Hickory area firefighters responded to Rainbow Childcare on Fairgrove Church Road SE around 6:47am after receiving reports of a partial building collapse. When crews arrived, they reported finding the roof partially caved in along with water damage in the center of the building.
Investigators say three trusses in the roof had failed, which led to the collapse. Excess rain may have also contributed to the failure, officials say.
No children were at the daycare when the incident occurred and no injuries were reported.
The building has been closed until repairs can be made, management says, and contingency plans for operation are currently being discussed.
Building inspectors are say the investigation into what caused the collapse is ongoing.
