Two Men Charged After K-9 Officer Sniffs Out Meth During Iredell County Traffic Stop

IREDELL, N.C. — Two men have been charged with trafficking methamphetamine after a canine detective sniffed out the narcotics during an Iredell County traffic stop.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department, on Wednesday, February 20th ,2019, members of the Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team stopped a 2016 Nissan Altima on I-40 East near mile marker 146 for traffic violations.

Deputies became suspicious of criminal activity during the traffic stop and use a canine officer to conduct an open air sniff around the vehicle.

The canine, Gerry, made a positive alert for the presence and odor of a narcotic during the sniff.  Deputies conducted a probable cause search and discovered 464.46 grams of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $185,784, concealed in a coat and wrapped in a plastic bag inside the car.

As a result, 54-year-old Carlos Edwards Williams Jr. of Mocksville, North Carolina; and 73-year-old David Eugene McCord of Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, were taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and charged with Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Possession and Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Transport.

Williams was also charged with Misdemeanor Giving False Information to an Officer and Driving while License Revoked.  Each man was issued a $300,000 bond.
