KANNAPOLIS, NC — Anthony Barry, 19, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to the production of child pornography.
Barry pleaded guilty to one count of the charge on November 7, 2018. In addition to the 204 months in prison, he will also be required to serve 10 years of supervised release.
Authorities began investigating Barry after a woman filed a report with Boone Police in April 2018, which claimed Barry was trying to extort her via Snapchat while claiming to be a modeling agent.
During the investigation, authorities say they found evidence of Barry using Snapchat in an attempt to also “extort sexual images from numerous minors and to trade child pornography.”
Court documents say Barry claimed to be a government agency in May 2018, and coerced an 11-year-old girl to produce a pornographic image of her sleeping 10-year-old sister.
Barry was arrested in July 2018 and admitted to finding victims on the social media app “LiveMe,” officials say. Court documents say he also admitted to trading child pornography and “recalled extorting the 11-year-old girl.”
