MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Deputies say they arrested a man for trying to run his wife and bystanders over with his vehicle.
Investigators say they were called out to Ginger Lane on March 1st in reference to a domestic dispute. The suspect, Gary Paynter II, had reportedly fled the scene in a Ford Mustang prior to deputies arriving.
However, his vehicle was spotted a short time later on Shinnville Road. Deputies reportedly tried to pull Paynter over but they say he refused to stop.
Paynter was eventually arrested a short time later. Deputies say they found a .45 caliber handgun, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
Paynter has been charged with the following: Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest, Careless and Reckless Driving, Driving While Impaired, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Open Container of Alcohol in a Passenger Area of a Vehicle, Driving While License Revoked, Domestic Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault by Pointing a Gun, and Communicating Threats.
