CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials say a taser was confiscated during a CMS safety screening at Myers Park High School. The screening was conducted in five classrooms at the school on Tuesday, March 12th.
Officials with the school system say no deadly weapons were found and the screenings proceeded without incident.
Myers Park High School was selected by a random drawing. No individual students were selected for screening. Parents at Myers Park High School were notified at the start of the screening and the conclusion.
School officials say the student will be disciplined according to the student handbook.
Princess Johnson, the mother of the student suspended for having the taser, contacted WCCB and provided more information about the incident.
She says her daughter is a senior who has never been in trouble and gets released early from school because she only needs one credit to graduate. She also says her daughter relies on public transportation to get to and from school and carries the taser as protection.
Johnson says she is worried about her daughter’s safety now that she is not allowed to carry a taser.
WCCB is working to get more information from the school system. Check back for updates.
