Roof Collapses During House Fire

SHERILLS FORD, NC — A family from Sherills Ford is thankful firefighters were able to save some personal mementos after a fire ripped through their home.

The fire destroyed the home on Peninsula Lane Friday morning. Β Firefighters saved an American flag and family photos. Β The family says they recently did more than $100,000 in renovations.

“I’m no the cry or break-down type, but this is just so surreal,” said homeowner Michael Tonzola. Β “I just can’t believe it. Β I keep looking at it and thinking maybe I’ll wake up and this won’t be real.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
