911 Call Released After Boater Finds Body Floating In Lake Wylie

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released the 911 call from a boater who saw a body floating in Lake Wylie.  The 911 call references the search for a missing Charlotte woman.  However, police have not confirmed if the body was in fact 39-year-old Vatsla Watkins.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Authorities are conducting a death investigation after a boater found a body floating in Lake Wylie Sunday evening.

The CMPD says on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 at around 5:45 p.m., dispatch received a call saying that a person was floating in Lake Wylie near the Buster Boyd Bridge.  The caller said that he was in a boat when he saw the victim.

CMPD’s Lake Wylie Boat Patrol and the Charlotte-Fire Department responded to the call.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say the cause of death is under investigation but have not said whether the case is related to the missing Charlotte woman, 39-year-old Vatsla Watkins, whose car was found at a Lake Wylie marina.  Read more about that story HERE.
