Cleveland County Inmate Charged With Killing Another Inmate

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have charged an inmate with killing another inmate in Cleveland County.

Kenneth Darby, 38, of Bessemer City has been charged with the murder of 37-year-old Jeffrey Todd Dunn, of Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office says on the morning of April 1st, 2019, detention officers responded to a medical emergency at the Cleveland County Detention Center.   Emergency personnel performed life saving on Mr. Dunn but he was later pronounced dead by paramedics.

Officials have not stated Mr Dunn’s cause of death.

Mr. Dunn had been arrested at about 2:50 a.m. on April 1st, and charged with Assault On A Female and Second Degree Trespassing.

An investigation led to warrants being issued for Kenneth Darby for Murder.  Darby had been arrested for Simple Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.   Kenneth Darby now faces arraignment for the Murder charge.
