CAHRLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says they are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead near Central Piedmont Community College.
CMPD says a crew with the Charlotte Fire Department was flagged down around 3pm in the area of Morrow Street near Elizabeth Avenue. Police say the area is often used as a homeless camp.
The victim, 51-year-old James Anderson, is believed to be a resident of the camp. Police say he was found dead of apparent trauma.
CMPD has not released any information on a possible suspect or motive at this time. They say the case is being treated as a homicide based on an examination of the victim by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
CPCC sent the following alert to students and staff:
“Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say they are investigating a homicide that occurred near Central Campus. CMPD is at the site now, on Morrow Street, just off Elizabeth Avenue and near I-277. No other details are available at this time.”
This is the city’s 35th homicide so far this year.
