Woman Dies Following Head-On Collision In Iredell County

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A woman died after authorities say she crossed the center lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle in Iredell County on Monday.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, on Monday, May 27th 50-year-old Tanya Marie Roberts, of Stony Point, was driving a 2007 Toyota passenger car east on Old Mountain Road near Old Miller Road, when she drove left of center and collided head-on with a 2007 BMW traveling west.

Roberts died while being air lifted to Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem.  The 17-year-old driver of the BMW, Carter Payne of Statesville, and a passenger were also taken to Wake Forest Baptist Health.

Investigators do not believe Roberts was impaired, but they say she was not wearing a seatbelt.
