York County Detention Officer Arrested For Selling Prescription Medications

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — An off duty York County Detention Officer has been arrested for selling prescription medications.

Authorities arrested John Thomas Strait and charged him with Distribution of Alprazolam and Distribution of Alprazolam in the Proximity of a Park.  Officers acted on information they received stating that a Detention Officer was selling prescription drugs off duty.

Strait, a shift Sergeant and ten year veteran with the York County Detention center, has been terminated.

We expect our employees at the Sheriff’s Office to maintain the highest levels of integrity, character and honor on or off duty,” stated Sheriff Bruce Bryant.  “This former detention officer violated all three of those values we hold dear including the public trust, and I as the Sheriff of York County will not tolerate that type of behavior.”
