SHELBY, NC — Cleveland County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested the man they say shot a 14-year-old boy in the chest Thursday.
According to reports, deputies responded to a shooting call on Devine Road and found the victim riding passenger in a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male. Deputies say the teen was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and they provided lifesaving aid until EMS could arrive.
The victim was transported to Atrium Health in Shelby, and then transferred to Atrium Health in Charlotte where officials say he remains in critical but stable condition.
Investigators were able to determine the shooting actually took place at a home on Jim Elliott Road.
The suspect, Gabriel Alsubagha, 18, was located at the home, deputies say, and positively identified as the shooter by the 17-year-old driver.
Search warrants executed at Alsubagha’s home reportedly revealed a Glock .45 caliber handgun, roughly two ounces of marijuana and about $1,800 cash. Investigators say they believe the shooting resulted from a drug deal gone wrong.
This is an ongoing investigation.
