CMPD: Protestors Disrupt City Council Meeting, 3 Arrested

The three people arrested Monday night during a Charlotte City Council meeting have been identified as 24-year-old Landon Rice, 18-year-old Julia McCarthy, and 21-year-old Benson Crooks.
They were each charged with Failing To Disperse On Command.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police arrested three protestors Monday night during a Charlotte City Council meeting. There were five protestors in all, police say, who disrupted the meeting at the Government Center in Uptown.
Two of the protestors climbed onto the Council Members’ dais and displayed a banner that said, “City of Charlotte Silences Woman, Amplifies Misogyny.” Three others stood on the floor and led a chant.
After the City Council called an immediate recess, police say they gave the protestors “multiple verbal warnings” to stop the disruptive behavior.
CMPD says three protestors were arrested when they refused to stop, and two others ran from the building.
The three individuals are being charged with Disruption of Official Meetings. Their names have not yet been released.
