100 Gardens To Host 3rd Annual Homegrown Tomato Festival

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) — The third annual Homegrown Tomato Festival, which is the annual fundraising event benefiting 100 Gardens, will be held at the The Neighborhood Theatre in NoDa on Saturday, July 27th from 12pm until 4:00pm.  The Neighborhood Theatre is located at 511 East 36th Street.

Event Details:

★ The Homegrown Tomato Competition: Backyard gardeners will bring their best tomatoes to the event and compete. There will be a panel of judges who will blind judge tomatoes to determine the “Critic’s Choice” awards for: Best Red/Pink Slicer, Best Non-Red/Pink Slicer, and Best Cherry Tomato. There will also be a “People’s Choice” award for which attendees will vote for their favorite tasting tomato.

★ Tomato Cocktail Competition: 10 local restaurants and bars will compete to win a “Critic’s Choice” award for the best tomato-themed cocktail. There will also be a “People’s Choice” award – attendees will vote for their favorite tasting cocktail.

★ Speakers and Demonstrations: 100 Gardens will present their mission and work to educate the
audience. School representatives and youth will be there to explain the valued impact 100 Gardens has made.

★ Unique Vendors: Local, artisan vendors will be selling tomato and gardening related goods.

★ Tomato Sandwiches: A staple of the south! Attendees can enjoy the world’s best tomato sandwiches made with locally grown tomatoes.

Tickets:

★ $10/person (advance). $15/person (day of). Kids under 13 – free.
