Police: Man Arrested For Breaking Into Statesville Gas Station To Steal Cigarettes And Lottery Tickets

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Statesville Police say they arrested a man for breaking into a gas station and stealing lottery tickets and cigarettes.

Officers responded to an alarm call at the 76 Gas Station on Salisbury Road in Statesville just after 2am on July 5th.

Once they arrived on the scene, they noticed the front glass of the business was broken.  The suspect reportedly stole lottery tickets and approximately 40 cartons of cigarettes.

Around 6:30am, the gas station contacted the Statesville Police Department and told them that some of the stolen lottery tickets had been cashed at Sheetz on Wilkesboro Highway around 5:30am.  Officers obtained security footage from Sheetz of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle.

A detective that was assigned to the case connected the suspect to a similar breaking and entering case in Iredell County.

The suspect was then identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Johnson of Statesville, according to a news release.

Johnson has been charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and obtaining property by false pretense.  Separate charges will be filed against him for the breaking and entering case in Iredell County.
