CHARLOTTE, NC — Practically handing over your car keys to thieves.  CMPD says there have been more than 200 car thefts this year after owners leave keys inside their car.

“I’d like to see people take their keys into their homes when they go to bed and not leave them in the car.  That would help tremendously in our efforts to fight crime,” said CMPD Lt. Tom Barry.

Police say, on average, one car is being stolen each day city-wide.
