CHARLOTTE, NC – There is now a call for added security at local light rail stations after a student says two guys car jacked him at gun point.

“Fortunately, I’m alive,” said Jose Aguirre, a South Charlotte resident.

Nineteen-year-old student Aguirre also got his car back. He says it’s the bright side of what Aguirre calls a horrible experience.

On his way home from work Monday night, Aguirre got off the light rail at the Sharon Road West station around 8:30pm.

He walked to the parking lot, got in his car, and was approached by two men.

“He opened the door, told me to get out and pointed the gun like this,” said Aguirre.

Aguirre says the guys took his wallet, phone, iPod, and his book bag before driving off in his car.

“It don’t surprise me, because nobody’s ever out here watching,” said DeAngelo Wiggins, a West Charlotte resident.

Light rail riders say they rarely see police patrolling after dark.

“Get on foot, get out their cars, and be out here,” said Wiggins.

Aguirre also wants to see more security, but says people need to be aware of their surroundings and not wear ear buds while walkinglike he was.

“Definitely not going to be riding the light rail much now. I’d rather be safe than sorry. I’ll just drive my car downtown and not care about the gas cost anymore,” said Aguirre.

Police found Aguirre’s car in Uptown Tuesday and returned it.

CMPD arrested Juajuan Arnold and Kaevon Leonard and charged them with the crime.
