CMPD Sees Quick Results In Violent Crime Initiative

CHARLOTTE, NC — A new CMPD initiative specifically aimed at combating gun-related violence is already seeing positive results, says department officials.

The Violent Crime Initiative is comprised of specifically selected team members who represent officers and detectives from CMPD’s Vice and Narcotics Unit, Gang Unit, Firearms Unit, Intelligence Unit, Crime Analysis Unit and patrol.

Two weeks after its formation, officials say they have already executed three search warrants that resulted in the arrest of nine suspects and the seizure of seven firearms. Four of those weapons had also been reported stolen.

Several of the arrested suspects are Jawan Smith, 22, Alijah Rollinson, 18, Louis Garcia-Watson, 24, Christian Holt, 23, and Jordan Johnson, 17.

Investigations are active and ongoing.
