Malls Across America on Alert After Video Surfaces

Charlotte, N.C. – Malls across America are on alert today after a video surfaced this weekend calling on Muslims to target western shopping malls.  The video names the Mall of America specifically.  Federal officials are taking the threat very seriously.

Al-Shabaab’s attack on an upscale mall in Nairobi, Kenya left more than 60 people dead in 2013.  In a video which surfaced over the weekend, a masked man suggests the terror group has aspirations outside where it typically operates, in Somalia, Kenya and Uganda.

Some shoppers at the Mall of America expressed concerns about the potential for an attack, but they weren’t letting it affect them.

Officials there say they have added extra security.  The mall already sees regular patrols by the Bloomington Police Department, which describes the Mall of America as a very safe place.

Al-Shabaab lists other potential targets in the video, including the West Edmonton Mall in Alterta, Canada which Edmonton Police say is also very safe.

While the Feds claim there is no credible evidence suggesting a mall attack in the U.S., they are still stepping up security just in case.
