
MAIDEN, N.C. — Police say an 8-year-old child was hit by a vehicle in Maiden. The accident happened Monday morning on Main Street.
Investigators say the child was standing on the sidewalk in front of his home waiting for the school bus.
Once the bus arrived, the driver activated the buses warning lights and slowed to stop. Just prior to the activation of the buses red ‘STOP’ lights and the ‘Stop Arm’ being deployed, the child ran into the eastbound travel lane of Main Street and was struck by a vehicle.
The child was air lifted to Carolinas Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. No charges have been filed at this time. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call 828-428-5005.
