IRON STATION, NC — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says two deputies were nearly shot Wednesday night while knocking on the door of a home.
The incident happened around 8:30pm at a home on Nolen Acres Lane. Officials say the deputies were responding to a “shots fired” call when they approached the home’s door to knock.
The suspect inside reportedly fired shots inside the home, which came through the door and narrowly missed the deputies.
Officials say they retreated to cover and waited for backup. No one was injured during the incident.
The suspect, Norman Nolen, 77, was taken into custody after a brief standoff with authorities. He is charged with one count of felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm.
Deputies have not released any information on what may have led to the shooting.
