GASTONIA, N.C. – An overturned tractor-trailer is leaking human waste on Highway 321 at Stagecoach Road in Gastonia. It happened just after 5PM Monday. It’s unknown how many gallons have leaked so far. Traffic is being impacted in the area as crews work to contain the spill and clear the scene. We have a crew on the scene. UPDATE: As of 6PM, crews have stopped the overturned tractor-trailer from leaking human waste, but traffic remains at a standstill in both directions of travel.
UPDATE: As of 7PM, crews say none of the nearly 3,000 gallons of human waste that spilled made it into local water. Part of Highway 321 remains closed at Stagecoach Road.
UPDATE: As of 8PM, officials have confirmed that speed was a factor in the accident. One southbound lane remains closed at this time.
