Authorities Investigating Deadly Union County Helicopter Crash

UNION COUNTY, NC — Authorities are investigating after a helicopter crashed Thursday afternoon, killing the pilot.

Officials say the pilot was the only person on board when the helicopter went down in the 6900 block of Highway 205 near the Union and Stanly County line.

The helicopter crashed in a field around 3:40pm while trying to land on a trailer.

The NCSHP says the pilot was hired by a farmer to spray his crops. The helicopter was transported to the field on a trailer, took off and dusted the crops, and then crashed while attempting to land.

The investigation is ongoing.
